When will the Volunteer Training begin?
-Training will take place between July 1st and August 31st 2008 as follows:
  1. Orientation & General Training - introduction and overview of the Commonwealth Youth Games Pune 2008.
  2. Role Specific Training - covers specific duties and procedures for your allocated role.
  3. Venue Training - covers the layout, functions performed, and policies and procedures (including health, safety and emergency specific procedures) at your allocated venue.
In addition to these training requirements, Volunteers in non performing roles for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies will be required to attend approximately 10 training sessions. These are also expected to be held in July – August 2008. There may also be an additional requirement for Ceremonies Volunteers to attend training sessions during September 2008. Please remember volunteers will work and not watch the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

The one day general volunteer training has begun on the 5th of July'08. Every volunteer will be informed by email/phone regarding their date, time and venue for training. Please be patient.
What happens if I was called for the training but missed my date?
-You will be re-scheduled to another date for a
maximum of one more time.Can I re-schedule my training date?
-At the time of being informed about your training date by phone, you may mention your preference incase you are not available on the date assigned to you. Once you have confirmed the same, further re-scheduling of date will not be entertained.
When will the police verification take place?
-We will ensure that the police verification takes place a minimum of fifteen days before the commencement of the games.
Can I register for the Volunteer Program now?
-We are really happy with the overwhelming response, though now we cannot register any further volunteers in to the program.
I have registered for the Volunteer Program but have not yet been interviewed, when can I expect my interview to be scheduled?
-The scheduling of interviews for those who have registered and not been called for an interview is in progress. Please be patient. You will be informed regarding your date, time and venue of interview by email.
What happens after I submit a Volunteer application?
-After you submit your Volunteer application, you will be informed by Email the place, date and time of interview. If selected, you will undergo a background security check by the Police. If successful you will be assigned to a training programme in July 2008 (General and area-specific). If you complete the entire training session and show your keenness; you will be a proud owner of the CYG Pune 2008 Team Pune uniform and volunteer accreditation card.
What is security check?
It is a search conducted by the Police to verify the character and antecedents of a Volunteer applicant.
What hours, days, and weeks am I expected to volunteer?
- A normal volunteer day will usually be 8 - 10 hours including a break but some roles may occasionally require longer shifts. All Volunteers engaged during the Games are required to be available for a minimum of 50 hours and are expected to be available for the full period of the Test event (29 August – 4 September) and the Games proper (12 October – 18 October 2008).
What kind of role would I be given?
- We will try to assign you a Volunteer role in accordance with the preference you have indicated in your application. However, due to the expected heavy response to the Volunteer programme, this is likely to be difficult.
When will training take place?

What will I be provided, to perform my role?
- You will be provided with a Volunteer uniform and accreditation pass which you will be required to wear at all times while performing your role. During Games time we will also provide you with appropriate food and refreshments during your shift and any equipment your role may require.

We aim to support you as much as possible to perform your role to the best of your abilities with confidence and determination.
Will I get paid for serving as a Volunteer?
Volunteers are unpaid members of the Pune 2008 Workforce team. Therefore, as a Volunteer, you will not receive wages, fees, honorariums, tips, gratuities or reimbursements for the work you undertake for the event.
Where will I be assigned?
- Volunteers will be assigned a role in or around a particular venue. A competition venue is a specific location where Games events are held. Venues where non-sporting activities are conducted are called non competition venues.
What do I do if my contact or personal details change?
- Please contact us immediately if your personal or contact details change.
After you are selected as a volunteer for the Games you will be given a Username and Password and you will be able to update your details online.
What if I am not yet 18 years or am over 60 years of age?
If, on 10 April 2008, you have not completed 18 years or have crossed 60 years of age you are not eligible to be taken on as a Volunteer for these Games.
What if I am not a resident of Pune?
- We will not be able to provide any accommodation in Pune and also not bear the travel expenses for such Volunteers.
Are new volunteers being registered?
No. New registrations have been closed. We are very happy with the overwhelming response.
If a volunteer is not satisfied with the role he/she has received, can the role be changed ?
No the role assigned to you cannot be changed. We realize it may not have been the volunteer’s choice, but it’s difficult to accommodate the desires of over 2000 volunteers. All the roles are equally fun and fulfilling.
Cant all the trainings be on the weekend?
We’re sorry, again, its not possible for us to have ALL trainings on the weekends. We are giving the volunteers prior notice , so they need to bear with us and try and attend as far as possible
Will meals be provided to volunteers during games time?
Yes, each volunteer will be given a meal voucher on arrival for duty which they may use at the designated catering areas.
What would be the working hours for a volunteer?
A volunteer will be expected to work maximum 8-10 hours a day and a total of 10 days. No volunteer will work for more than 5 consecutive hours.
What will they receive for being volunteers? What kind of recognition or incentives to perform?
Each volunteer will receive a certificate and there are lots of rewards and lots of things have been planned for volunteers which we don’t want to disclose at the moment.
How long will breaks be during games time?
Volunteers will have regular breaks for about 15-30 minutes as well as breaks for meals.
Will transport to the various venues be provided for volunteers?
Transport will be provided from various pick-up points across the city, by PMT buses. It will be free for all volunteers who are carrying their accreditation during a stipulated period.
Will volunteers who aren’t residents of pune be reimbursed for accommodation?
Out-of-town volunteers will not be provided with accommodation or be reimbursed for their expenses.
What provisions for transport will be made for volunteers who have to work late nights?
They will be provided to a certain point within the Pune city limits.
